THE COX'S CREEK BRIDGE.

TO THE KDITOU. Sir,—ln your paper of this date there is a, local re Cox's Creek bridge, whioh is calcu. lated to mislead the public. In it it is stated that Mr. Mason is to contribute £200, besides free land, and Mr. Courtney £100, if the bridge be placed in a certain position, all the other proprietors of land in the district being represented as selfishly claiming large sums for their riparian rights. As one of the parties so held up to public reprobation, I beg to state that we have no selfish interest in tho matter. We wished the bridge to be built in Wharf and Princes streets, where it benefited many parties as well as the public ; but where it is now being erected it will benefit one or two parties and injure many. It is not yet too late to make it a drawbridge, and if this is dona there will not be much talk of riparian rights. For myself, I can state that I pur« chased my property 15 years ago, solely on account of the riparian rights attached to it, and it is unfair to blame me for asking compensation for being deprived of them. I know others are in the same position. We seek nothing but justice. I know that several industries would have been started if the riparian rights had not been interfered with, and they may still be prosecuted if the structure is made a drawbridge, but not: otherwise. A petition, numerously signed by the parties interested, was forwarded to the House of Representatives indicating tho proper position for the bridge, but it wa3 for some reason put on one side, and private representations have over-ridden the public^ —I am, &c,, William Edgab,
