TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.

The annual meeting of Takapuna Jockey Club was held at the office of the club, Devonport, on Monday night. There was a large attendance of members, and Mr. E. W. Alison occupied tho chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read aud con« firmed. After the secretary had read the receipts and expenditure, profit and loss account, and balance-sheet, the chairman submitted the report, from which we give the following : — In placing the annual statement of accounts of the past year before you, I have to congratulate you both upon the improved financial position and also the great success which has attended the club's operations in every respect. During the past racing season the club has paid away in stakes, the sum of £1,351 ss, as against £1,103 14 for ISS4-5, showing an increase of £247 lis. The accounts show that the receipts have been £SS6 19s lOd in excess of the previous year. That the financial position of the club is most satisfactory is best established by the fact thai the net profit for the year is £555 12s 6d, whilst tho expenditure account shows that au amount equal to that of other years had been expended upon the course, grand stand, and other necessary improvements. The increased number and superior class of horses .that have competed during the past scasou, together with the numerous addition of aunual subscribers, coupled with the increased and large attendance of the public at your meetings ii evidence that the club is gaining ground, not only with horse-owners, but is becoming more popular year by year. Your committee recommend that the credit balance bo utilised in linpioviug and extending the course, which would not only help to increase the popularity of your meetings, but materially assist the club to be even a greater auxiliary than at present to the Metropolitan Ciut>."

The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said the members would perceive that after paying all liabilities up to the end of the financial year that there was a balance of £3S'J Is 3d at the bank. The profit and loss account also showed that the past racing seat-on pro. ducpd£sss 12s whilst the amount of stakes paid away was £2-17 lis in excess of the previous year. After deducting all liabilities due by the club, the balanc-- to the credit of the capital account was £ti3s 5«, so that it was apparent that the club was in a prosperous condition. They had heard from the report that the committee recommended the expenditure of the credit balance in extending and improving the course. He took it as a vary good suggestion, which would result iu larger fields, superior class of horses, and increased attendances of the public, and aiso enable them to give larger stakes. There was no doubt that the success of the past season was entirely due to tho able and energetic manner in which the business of the club had been carried out by the secretary and other officials under the judicious and careful supervision of the committee who had given a large amount of their time and labour in order to obtain the present results, tie was glad to see such a large attendance of members present. The motion was put and carried unanimously. The election of officers was then proceeded with. President.—On account of the illness and absence from New Zealand or the retiring president (Mr. W. J. Hurst, M.H.K.), Mr. E. Mitchelson, M.H.R., was unanimously elected to fill the position for tho ensuing year. Committee, — The following gentlemen wero elected as the committee .-—Messrs. E. W. Alison, Du ier, May*, Wells, Pitt, O'Neill, Eraser, Vosper, Hcdloy, Rowley, and Branston.
