[OWN correspondent,] Thames, Tuesday. Augustus Balcke, who has been in business as grocer for many years, and until recently was employed as postman, died suddenly today. He bad been suffering from a complication of diseases for a considerable time. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Gisborne, Tueiday. At the inquest on George Johnson, who committed suicide at Makaraka, by blowing his brains out, the jury returned a verdict of temporary insanity. Hokitika, Tuesday. John Lange, jeweller, committed suicide by shooting himself in an outhouse this morning. It is supposod that financial cmbar/asment led to the fatal deed. The deceased was well-known and widely respected throughout the West Coast. * . . Christ church, Tuesday. Last night the shop of Mr. B. Button, painter and glazier, was broken into, and glaziers diamonds to the value of £25 stolen. Other instances of breaking into and stealing have occurred recently, but not of so serious a character.
