HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODS.
[by telegraph.—PßESS ASSOCIATION.] Timakc, Tuesday. The weather has been exceptionally wet during the three last days, but the only effect has been to flood the low-lying portions of tho town and suburbs. No damage has been done, bo far. The rivers in the country districts, north and south, are running back, and bad floods are sure to follow, if the rain does not cease during the next 24 hours. All day a heavy sea has been rolling into the harbour, but the four barques and other small vessels lying at the moorings are riding safely. Christchurch, Tuesday. It is raining heavily from the east. Several small landslips have occurred in a part of the lulls. Accounts from the country show that nearly all the sown crops have suffered greatly. There is considerable loss among the stock. Dunehix, Tuesday. The express trains from the north and south reached town in good tune, although some slips had delayed other trains during the day. To-night rain is falling heavier than ever, and damage by floods seems almost certain. Port Chalmers, Tuesday. The weather was so bad to-day as to put a stop to almost all shipping work.
