THE NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. The Committee of the Southern Rugby Union, Sydney, have chosen the following team to visit Maoriland Walker, MeArthur, Caird, Shaw, Bellbridge, Carr, Weaver, P. Allen, Shortus, Woolnough, Colquhouu, Blaxland, Beck, Austin, Pearson, Warren, and Wiseheart. Walker, better known as "Jumbo" during the 18S2 tour, is the only member of that team. The first seven of the above players took part in the last match against Queensland (which we mentioned in our issue of yesterday), when New South Wales won by 2.S points to 5. Only two of the famous Gordon team, Walker and Warren (secretary) are in the team. Carr is an Aucklander, and his parents are resident in the city. If possible Mr. M. A. Arnold, hon. secretary of the Southern Rugby Union, will accompany the New South Welshmen as manager. The visiting team promise to be pretty fast, as no less than nine of them play half-back for their clubs in Sydney. Eight or nine of the men ordered into practice for the New South Wales match, including six of the reps, turned up ou the Metropolitan ground for practice last evening. A few others joined in, and a little dribbling and passing was indulged in, but the small attendance did not admit of much work being done. Those who were present came under the notice of the Selection Committee. Walking exercise is announced for to-night. We understand that it is inteuded by the Auckland Rugby Union to entertain the Sydney team at a ball after the match in place of the customary dinner. This will no doubt be pleasing news for the lady friends of the teamsMr. Joseph Mayo, Drury, writes ro the action of the Poneke Football Club in Wellington as follows:—"After reading your telegram in this morning's issue of the doings of the Poneke Football Club, I think Auckland athletes ought to register a vow (in defence of the honourable gentleman acting as umpire for their team) never to meet Wellington again in any manly game unless they sift to the bottom and expel from their olubs the perpetrators of the mean deed."
