At Bull's, Rangitikei, a party is being got up for Kimberley. Steps are being taken to raise a Highland rifle corps at New Plymouth. The requisite Parliamentary notice is given respecting the Harbour Board Bill. An addition to the goods' shed at the railway station is in course of erection. The furniture and effects of the Metropolitan Club are to be sold by auction on Wednesday. The amount of the land revenue of Taranaki for the quarter ending March last was £1647 8s 8d» The Rev. Mr. Gulliver is to deliver a lecture on " Socialism," in St. Sepulchre's schoolroom, on Thursday next. A movement is on foot at New Plymouth to get a steamer going to Kimberley to call there, and take a lot of cargo. ft is rumoured that Mr. Gillon, at present editor of the Wellington Post, is to be made a Government Under-Secretary.
Mr. Grattan Riggs and his company made a first appearance in Napier on Thursday last, opening with "The Irish Detective." There is a good deal of excitement among miners in the Grey district about a new rash to Nelson's Creek. Numbers ha*"* left for it. Loort and Cushman's Minstrels commenced a season on Monday last at Wellington. Their opening performance attracted a large audience. The recent rains have had the effect of bringing down fully 500 logs to the Hikutaia booms, while about 50 have also been lodged at those at Kauaeranga. At the late fire at the Mangawhare Hotel, the house-dog, who was chained where he could not be reached, was burned to death. His cries were moat pitiable. We see that Miss Eloise Juno, and the "Called Back" Company, have been drawing good houses at New Plymouth, concluding their season on the 3rd instant with "Leah." The Grey River Argus states that Mr. Lichfield, the manager of the local branch, has been telegraphed for from Auokland, and will be about two months away from Greymouth. News by the schooner Mimiha is to the effect that there is a strong feeling in New Caledonia in favour of having the New Hebrides annexed, for the purpose of obtaining labour. Typhoid fever is very prevalent in Melbourne. Forty-six cases were admitted to the hospital in one day ; nine have been fatal. Since Christmas 897 oases have been •sported, 218 of whioh were fatal,
