NATIVE LANDS COURT.
THE TAHEKE BLOCK. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Rotorua, Saturday. A Native Land Court is now sitting at the Taheke, which is about 13 miles from Rotorua, and the famous block of land known as the Taheke block iB now before the Court. Judge Mair is presiding, assisted by Mr. George Cook as Native •Assessor, Mr. F. Hull clerk, and Mr. Swanson interpreter. With this staff of officers things are going on well, and they should be well through this case by the end of the present week. There has been some very hard swearing by the different sections who claim this block, and it will require all the skill of the Court to do justice to the right people. This block covers a large scope of country, and some very valuable land along the borders ,of the liotoiti Lake. Judge Mair, through having resided in and about this district for very many years, and being personally acquainted with almost every individual native of each hapu who claim this block, and having also a thorough knowledge of the native character, should prove a very able and competent person to deal with this important matter.
