THE AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN IN ENGLAND.

« [REUTBR'a telegram.] London, May 28. The cricket match, the Australians v. an eleven representing Oxford University, commenced yesterday. There was a good attendance of the public, though the weather was showery. The wicket was heavy owing to recent rains. The following were the playore ;—University team : Measrs. Brain, Buckland, Cobb, Cochrane, Hillyard, Key, Page, Glennie, Rosleigh, Thompson, Whitty. The Australians went first to the wickets, the highest scores made being- Jones, caught, 28; Blackham, run out, 15, The others collapsed, and the innings closed for 70. The principal bowlers for the Oxonians were Buckland (four wickets for two runs) and Cochrane (two for two runs). The Oxford team in their first innings were all disposed of for 45. The principal scores were: Page, leg before wicket, 10; Hillyard, caught, 12; Thompson, not out, 11. The bowling of the visitors was dead on the wicket. Spofforth took nine wickets for two runs. The Australians commenced their second innings, and at the close of the day's play had put together eight runs for the loss of two wickets.
