SUDDEN DEATH : CORONER'S INQUEST.

Ox Thursday afternoon an inquest was held at Water View, Avondale, before Dr. Philson and a jury of six, on the body of Joseph Arnold, farmer, who died suddenly on Wednesday night. Mr. Sansom was choseu foreman, and the following evidence was taken : George Arnold, carpenter, Avondale, deposed that deceased was his uncle, and Emma Arnold, wife of deceased, had coma for him on Wednesday night, as her husband was dying. Witness found him kneeling at his bedside, with his face on the bedclothes. He called out " Uncle," but got no answer. Witness lifted him on to the bed, and sent to the Asylum for Dr. Young, who, when he arrived, pronounced life extinct. The deceased leaves a widow and one daughter. He had complained for some weeks past of pain at the heart. Mrs. E. Arnold, wife of deceased, deposed that deceased came in on Wednesday from his work at about eleven o'clock, and complained of pains at his heart. She gave him some hot water and milk with a teaspoonful of painkiller in it. He then went to bod, and had not been long in bed when he became very ill. Witness ran out to fetch Mrs. Cox, a neighbour, and on returning found him dead, leaning at the bedside. John Cox, collector of rates, Avondale, corroborated the evidence of the other witnesses. Dr. Young, Medical Superintendent of the Asylum, deposed that he had held a post mortem examination on the body, and found the pleura on both lungs very much inflamed, and universally adherent. The lungs were congested, but the heart wan quite healthy. The cause of death was double pleurisy. The jury returned a verdict of "Death from natural causes."
