NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.

[PRESS ASSOCIATION.} Wellington, Thursday. Mr. D. Campbell, M.A., of Dunedin, has received the appointment of Junior Master of the Wellington College. Mr. M. Read is recovering from the accident he met with yesterday. The Russian warship Vestnik this morning saluted the anniversary of the coronation of the Czar, firing thirty-two guns. The Wellington Artillery followed with a salute of twenty-one guns. Kelson, Thureday. A largely-attended meeting of the shareholders of the Champion Copper Company was held here to-day, the Canterbury shareholders being represented. Mr. Henrick's statement showed that the average yields are 7£ per cent., and that the areas exposed in the levels are sufficient to give 26 tons per day to smelt after ten months ; that, after allowing for all expenses, including opening, there would be a profit of £300 per month at the present low price of copper. Tt also stated that if the levels in course of opening out showed the same extent as those already opened, there would be enough to keep smelting going another 10 or 12 months. As there is a reasonable doubt that these lodes continued downward, a proposal to raise £15,000 by the issue of preferential shares to erect more roasting kilns, and pay liabilities, was unanimously approved. Dunemjj, Thursday. At a meeting of policyholders in the Government Life Insurance Association, about 100 being present, resolutions were passed in favour of giving the policyholders a larger share of control of the affairs of the association, and generally approving of Mr. Fisher's proposals. The clause in Mr. Bell's proposals to grant compensation to lecturing officers was condemned emphatically.
