SOCIAL REUNION AT FERNDALE.

♦ On Saturday afternoon a social reunion was held at the residence of Mr. J. T. Garlick, Ferndiile, Mount Albert, About SO invitations were issued, the object in view being to enable Mr. Noble to make the personal acquaintance of the members of committee of the Gospel Temperance Mission, and other friends of the temperance cause. At a stage in the proceedings Mr. Garlick expressed his gratification in welcoming Mr. Noble as an earnest and able advocate of the temperance cause, and Mr. Noble replied in appropriate terms. The Rev. C. Worboys made some roference to his connection with Mr. Noble in London, and to his knowledge of the good work done in Hoxton Music Hall. The Rev. R. Bavin moved, and Mr. J. Newman seconded, a vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Garlick for their hospitality ; after which the gathering resolved itself into a committee of the whole house, when arrangements were made for a Gospel Temperance Convention to be held at the Tabernacle (the trustees having kindly given the use of the building) at an early date. At the morning sitting a paper will be read by the Rev. J. S. Hill on "Aggressive Christian Work;" at the afternoon sitting a paper will be read on " The necessity for the influence and power of the Holy Spirit in Christian work; "' and at the evening meeting there will be an evangelistic service, when the questions put in the question box respecting the two papers will be read, answered, and discussed. The committee of the Gospel. Temperance Mission have decided to ask Mr. Noble to prolong his visit by a week, so as to enable him to address meetings in the suburbs, etc. He came to Auckland with the lull intention of visiting the South if an open door was found for him, but an erroneous impression has got abroad that he was going straight on to Sydney, We understand that the temperance friends in the South are now in communication with Mr. Noble, with a view to inviting him to proceed thither at the close of his Auckland engagements.
