CATHOLIC AND PROTESTANT DIGNITARIES.

TO THE KDITOE, Sir,—l have noticed in last week's Free' man's Journal, that the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Armagh accompanied the funeral of the late Primate Beresford, of Armagh, and that the bells of the Catholic Cathedral tolled on the occasion. Now, Mr,' Editor, as this is the first instance on record' that a dignatary of the Catholio Churohaccompanied < the remains of a Protestant Primate to his last resting-place since th» Reformation (such being prohibited by thee rules of the Catholic Church), it strikes ma that His Lordship the late Primate must have, at the last moment, died ia the bosom of the ancient faith. I have heard, oh reliable authority, that he expressed a wish that the old Cathedral of St. Patrick should be handed over to the Catholics agnin. .If this is the case, I should wish, as a Protestant, that the matter receive more publicity. —I am, 4c., A PKOTHSTAHT, !- Auckland, March 23, 1886.
