RIOTS AT LEICESTER.

[reuter's TELEGRAM. |

London, February 12. The operatives employed in the hosiery factories at Leicester have been out on strike since yesterday. The town has been a scene of riotous proceedings. A mob of operatives paraded the town, smashing the windows of the houses of the factory proprietors and other persons who have made themselves obnoxious to them. They then proceeded to wreck the factories, a quantity of valuable machinery being destroyed. The police were totally unable to cope with the outbreak, and a large number of residents were obliged to be sworn in as special constables.
