ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held on Monday evening. Pre«ent : The Mayor (Mr. J. D. Jackson), Messrs. Clark, Hill, Robinson, Shaldrick, Sullivan, Tapp, and Webb. Minutes and correspondence were read. Amongst the letters sent was a strong representation to the Minister for Public Works, betting forth the objections on the ground of public utility and convenience against the proposal of the Railway Department to remove the present passenger station to a less central and more inconvenient site, and also against taking possession of about eight acres of foreshore, which there was no immediate prospect of utilising. There was also an application for a footpath on the east side of Lower Queenstreet, which was referred to the Streets Committee. Amongst the letters received was one from the Onehuoga Racing Club enclosing a cheque for £10 10s, to be handed to the Ladies' Benovdlent Society, which was received with thanks ; also a letter from the Resident Engineer as to a claim made by the tenant of Mount Smart for the loss of two cows alleged to have been killed owing to the neglect of the driver of the ballaut engine in not replacing panels on the line. The Streets Committee reported they had accepted tenders for scoria ash at la 7£d a yard and for fine gravel at Is sd. The lowest formal tender for sheila being considered too high at 3s 5d a yard was not dealt with. The Engineers (Messrs. Boylan and Lundon) reported that the contract in Selwyn-street and the kerbing and channelling in Queen-street were neither of them up to the specification, and that unless these works were put right they proposed to take them out of the contractor's hands and finish «>t their expense. The Council resolved not to interfere in the matter. An application from Mr. Bradley to erect a verandah was granted subject to the regulations. An application for a right of way half a chain wide was granted to Mr. A. Whyte. An offer of twelve acres for a cemetery at Meadowbank at £150 an acre was received. The matter was deferred to be oonsidered with other offers at a future date, The ordinary accounts were passed, and the C'ounoil adjourned.
