THE TRADE COMMISSION.
London, August 10.
The Royal Commission which was appointed to enquire into the causes of the present depression in trade in Great Britain has commenced its labours under the presidency of the Earl of Iddesleigh (Sir Stafford Northcote) The majority of the members of the Commission hold views favourable to what is known as fair trade, namely a system of international reciprocity, free trade being allowed those countries only which admit English produce on equal terms.

VOTE OF THANKS TO THE ARMY AND NAVY.
London, August 10. Sir Michael Hicks-Beach has given notice that on Thursday next, the 13th, he will move, " That the thanks of Parliament be accorded to the army and navy for their services in Egypt."
LONDON MARKETS. London, August 10. Consols have declined to 99f. New Zealand securities are unaltered.
The market rate has advanced to ly, and is now £ below t.he bank rate. Colonial breadstuff's and tallow are unchanged.
