FATAL SO AT ACCIDENT AT LAKE TAUPO.
(BY TELEBRAPH — ASSOCIATION.) Napier, Tuesday. News of a fatal boat accident comes from Taupo. It appears that on Sunday morning Mr. J. B. Ashman, of the Public Works Department, and Mr. Kingsford, of the Telegraph Department, went for a sail on the lake. When about a mile from adore, the boat capsized ; both men succeeded in getting on top of the boat, which, however, kept rolling over, throwing them into the water. Eventually Ashman became numbed with the cold and exhausted, and the last time the boat rolled he sank. After two hours the boat drifted ashore, and Kingsford was found more dead than alive. He nott lies in a precarious condition. Deceased, who was universally respected, was for many years Inspector of Roads in the Taupo district. About twelve months ago he paid a visit to England, returning to the colony some three months ago, and re entered Government service. Deceased was under thirty years of age, and was nephew of Mr. E. H. Bold, Inspector of Telegraphs, East Coast district, who immediately left for Taupo on receipt of the sad intelligence.
