FRUITS EXHIBITED AT THE WELLING TON EXHIBITION.

Thb fruit sent from Auckland was shipped by the Auckland Gardeners' Horticultural Society, and was received at the Buildings, Wellington, on the Monday before the opening of the Exhibition, but owing to there being no secure place available the cases were not unpacked until Saturday morning. The tables were prepared the previous evening, and the fruit staged before the opening ceremony on Saturday by Messre. Hobbs, Hurst, and Kirk. Although less extensive than it might have been, the display was effective, and quite sufficient to give a fair indication of the fruit resources of Auckland and the superiority of the Auckland climate. We append a list of contributions, from which it will be seen that the display was entirely from Auokland, with a single noteworthy exceptiou, the fine collection of apples exhibited by Mr. Danck, of Hokitika. This collection comprised twelve kinds, a large dish of each kind being sent by Mr. Dunck, and was the only collection which contained our old friends, the Northern Spy and Cornish Gilliftower. The collection of apples, pears, oranges, and lemons exhibited by Mr. Hobtis, M. H.R., was very good, and consisting of large dishes of each kind, was very effective. The oranges were very fine, and fully demonstrated the possibility of producing first-class fruit so far south as Pokeno. Mr. Sharp's collection of apples comprised over thirty kinds, but unfortunately, owing to the fruit having been packed in malt dust, which absorbed moisture during transit, many fruits were more or less damaged, so that most kinds were represented by one or two fruits only. Mr. Beloe's collection contained about sixteen kinds of apples— small dish of each. The " Pilgrim," said Co be blight-proof, was included in his collection ; it seems likely to prove an addition of some value. The lemons and oranges exhibited by Messrs. Hurst, Reyburn, S. Morrin, and Calfler, were of good quality and fair size. The fine shaddocks exhibited by Mr. MacDonold and Mr. Hesketh, and with Mr. Blombeld's guavas, formed a puzzle to many visitors. A fine dish of oranges was exhibited by Mr. Clenny, of Whangarei, and sixty-four oranges, the production of a single branch, were sent by Mr. F. S. Larkins, of Remuera. Unfortunately they became detached from the branoli in transit. Lastly, a dish of excellent shell almonds was exhibited by Mr. Reyburn, of Whangarei.
