THE WALKING CONTEST.
[BY TELEGRAPH,PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dcnkdin, Monday. The twalve hours' walking contest between Hancock and Scott was commenccd at eleven o'clock this morning. Hancock attempted to secure a lead at the start, but Scott did not permit this. Neither of the men was off tho track at all, and at no time did Scott lead more than a quarter of a lap, which he did at half-past ten. Ten minutes later Hancock polled this up, but upon this and other occasions he was hooted for what was considered unfair walking. Tho men thus travelled duriog the twelve hours, with only a yard or two between them. In the la9t few minutes Scott put on a great apart, and won by three yards, tho distance covered being 72 miles 8 laps, there being 22 laps to the mile.
