THE GOLDFIELDS.

[ay TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday evening. Cambria.—ln the winze below No, 3 level the mineral vein baa only been broken down three or four feet. It is about three inches wide, and contains a nice show of gold. The haul of 1401bs. specimens reported as from No. I stope west, No. 3'level is not to be understood in the usual acceptation of the term. It is not altogether a new feature, but the continuation of gold already in hand. In the intermediate level westward gold is seen in both Btopes. The spot where the haul of one cwt. from No. 2 stopo was taken a few days ago has not been touched. In the intermediate level eastward, strong colours of gold are frequently seen. Above No. 2 level, the stopes are a height of fifty feet, probably more. Gold is seen in two stopes east and one west. In the winze on No. 1 lode coloura of gold are also seen. Darwin.—The drive looks well, good mineral being plentiful in the quartz. A stope is in progress in each aide of the winze, and gold is seen in the stringers. Golden Crown. The quartz at present being crushed is taken from a mass of little leaders and mullocky stuff near to be Waiotahi boundary, at No. 2 level. A few pounds of picked stone have been obtained. The crushing is shaping satisfactorily. Cross.—Colours of gold are seen in both the cross-lode and footwall leaders, but no picked stone worth mentioning has come to hand. Moanataiari Extkntjkd.—The cross cut at No. 1 level has been extended over 100 feet. Little veins of promising quartz are now being met, and the country is favourable for gold. Rocky Point.— tributes have been let: one, on the Adelaide reef below the lowest level, at 20 per cent.; and one, on the stopea recently worked by the company, at 15 per cent. The south cross-cut ia being extended by the company in search of other lodes. Cambria.—Mr. R. McDonald Scott received the following telegram from the mine manager last Saturday, viz., "140 pounds specimens from western side No. 1 ■tope, No. 3 level. Good show left." The latest accounts from the mine are " That at No. 3 level there is » great deal of good crushing dirt coming to hand from the western side of the winze, and that in the eastern intermediate drive gold is seen frequently in the hangingwall of the lode, also that in the second stope, western intermediate drive, a very good show of gold is left in the bank." Darwin.—The latest accounts from the mine are that the indications in the stopes between the winze and the Cambria boundary specimens may come to hand at any breakingdown, and in the face of the drive on the lode at No. 3 level 158 feet westward from Cambria boundary the wonder is from the highly mineralised hangingwall that more gold has not yet been found. The manager is getting ready for another crushing. Talisman. — Private transactions have taken place in the company's stock at advanced prices on first cost of the shares. New Prince Imperial.—The mine manager reports as follows on August 6 — The winze from No. 4 level to connect with the intermediate drive on No. 1 reef holed through yesterday evening. To-day we are busily engaged breaking down the quartz in the winze and drive. In both places the reef looks exceedingly well, and although there are only colours of gold seen, it is well distributed throughout the stone, which will be good payable crushing dirt. The footwall lead on the western side of the break at No. 5 level continues daily to contribute a few pounds of good pioked stone, and is altogether looking better.
