The brigantine Ryno sailed for Suwarrow Island at about midday yesterday. The barque Bella Mary, at present at the Kaipara, baa been chartered to load timber at that place for Sydnej. Captain Hutchison, of the s.s. Suva, which arrived yesterday from Southern ports, reports a, danger that is at present existing in close proximity to the harbour, in the shape of a large raft of timber which is left at anchor about three miles off Otatau. The raft is right in the course of vessels coming from the Southern ports, and some steps should be taken towards its instant removal. It appears the raft was being towed from Cabbage Bay to Auckland by the s.s. Bella, but on Thursday night she was forced to anchor the raft, ao as to enable the steamer to come on here for a ■upply of fresh water. Since that time it has been left in the position named. The Urfion Co.'s s.s. Suva came into harbour yesterday afternoon from Wellington and East Coast ports, with four passengers and a small general c?.rgo. On the way from Gi*borne Captain Hutchison bad a sharp look out kept from the, masthead for any signs of the wreck reported by Captain Popham, but nothing was seen of. it between Gisborne and tho East Cape. Captain Hutchison reports that he left Wellington c.n the 14th at 4 p.m., Napier on the 15th, at 7 p.m., and Gisborne on the 16th, at 8 a.m., and arrived as above. Experienced luht variable wir.ds and smooth sea throughout the passage. After landing her cargo at the Queen-street Wharf the Suva was taken across to the Railway Wharf, for the purpose of taking out her masts and having new ones stepped. The ketch Venui, from Opotiki, brings the following cargo : 110 sicks maize, 114 sacks ■wheat, 11 tons potatoes, 49 pigs. The B.*. Wellington, 31enelg, and Waitaki, left last evening for Whangarei, with passengers and cargo. The brigantine Eillan Donan left Oamaru for this port with a cargo of grainstuffs yesterday. The barque Samuel was docked yesterday morning, and a survey wai held by Captains Clayton and Worsp. So far, nothing can be learnt as to the seat of the leak in the vessel, co that she is to be stripped at once, and tenders are returnable at the agent's office (Mr. Geo. Cozens) to-day. Again the cutter tEjlus has returned to port after having made two unsuccessful attempts to reach Samoa. Early yesterday morning the cutter ran back to an anchorage off the Railway Wharf, and from Captain Minchem we learn that the cause of his return was the carrying away of the main boom of the cutter »ad unfavourable weather. Captain Minchem informs us that he left Auckland harbour on Saturday last at 1 p.m., and got away from Cuvier Island at 10 a.m. on Sunday. From there, ran a north-east course for about eighty milfts. Stormy weather set in, and at 10 p.m. on Monday the main boom broke. The wind increased to a violent gale, and the vessel had to be kept before the wind all night under the staysail. A terrific sea was running, the cutter being often almost on end and in great danger. She was also leaking, and the pumps had to bo kept going. On Wednesday night the weather moderated, and the vessel's course was altered for Auckland, the wind being from the eastward. Fair weather continued, and an anchorage ware reached as above. On Wednesday last Qrtptain Minchem met with an accident by •which he lost a part of the index finger of tho left hand. He was cutting a piece of rope at the time with a hatchet, when owing to a sudden lurch of the cutter, his hand slipped under the falling hatchet. On arrival yesterday, Captain Minchem proceeded to Dr. Tennent, and there had the finger properly dressed. In addition to other injuries, we understand that the cutter is nomewhat strained, and is making water. The s.e. Rose Casey is to resume her running on the trade between Auckland, the Waiwera, and Mihurangi this morning. During the time this favourite steamer has been laid up, she has received a thorough overhaul, both to her hull and machinery, and has been repainted throughout. The Union Company's steamer Ohau came into harbour last night from Southern ports, with a small general cargo. Captain Bernech reports having left Port Chalmers at 8 p.m. on the Bth instant ; called at Oi>maru, Timaru, Lytteltoc, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, and Tamranga, leaving the latter port at 10.35 a.m. yesterday, and arrived at Auckland 10.35 p.m. Experienced fresh N.E. and E. winds and sea to arrival. The Ohau proceeds on to Greymouth at noon to-day. THE MOTLEY. The brigantine Motley cleared outwards at the Customs yesterday morning for New York with a cargo of kauri gum. The following is the quantity and value of the cargo :—3602 cases of kauri gum (353 tons), £19,088. KAIPARA SHIPPING.
