GUN ACCIDENT AT DARGAVILLE.

Ok Sunday, 17th May, a very serious accident happened to Mr. Edwin Marriner, in the employ of the Telegraph Department here, by the accidental discharge of firearms. It appears that Mr. E. Marriner left Dargaville on Saturday evening to go to a bush on the Little Monganui to shoot pigeons. Returning on Sunday towards the landing, he was talking to his friends in the bush, when, thinking that he might get a shot at the pigeons further on, ho too* the gun from the young man he was with. It was loaded at the time. In doing so, it appears that he seized the gun a little lower than the muzzle the stock striking a kauri stump which snapped the trigger, the gun going off, firing the whole contents through the muscle of the left arm, causing a frightful wound, as, the flesh was blown completely through bis coat. His friends quickly bound up the wound, and, getting into a boat, brought him down to Dr. Norton. Fortunately, the doctor found that the bone of the arm was uninjured, i but feared that amputation would be necessary. lam happy to state, however, that (through the skill and attention of Dr. Norton) the patiant is now out of danger, and doing as well as cau be expected, but a fearful wound will be left in the arm,— [Own Correspondent, May 30.]
