A soiree, in aid of the building fund of the church, took place at Mahurangi Heads on the 21at instant, and in spite of the unpropitious weather, there was a most satisfactory attendance. The proceedings commenced with tea, which was provided by public subscription, Miss Mary Darrach and Miss Eliza Darrach superintending and doing the honours. This being disposed of, the chair was taken by the Rev. "R. McKinney, who addressed the meeting, touching on the object of the gathering. The entertainment consisted of sonas and recitations, etc., Master Linsay McKinney contributing to the former, and Messrs. E. Morrison and J. Dawson to the latter. The usual votes of thanks were accorded to the reverend Chairman for presiding, and the ladies for their assistance at the tables. J,' H.
