St. Patrick's day is likely to be kept up with more than usual eclat this year in Hamilton. Besides the Horticultural Show on that day, there will be the lawn tennis match between the Kawhia and the Hamilton Clubs, and a cricket match also on Sydney Square. Previous to last session a petition of the settlers of this district was forwarded to the Government asking that a. grant should be made to construct the road from Rangiriri into the Waiereogi district, so as to give the settlers of Waterengi an outlet for their produce, which they do not at present pos»eas. This request was supported by Mr. J. B. Wbyte, the member for the district, and a sum of £300 was voted for the purpose. Recently, however, the petitioners have received a reply unfavourable to their request, and Mr. Whyte himself was informed that though the sum of £300 had been placed on the estimates the Government did not intend to spend the money. Mr.'Whyte saw Mr. Ballance in Auckland before that Minister left, and pressed upon him the urgency of the case and the advantage the road wonld be to the Government in the disposal of a quantity of excellent land suitable for farm settlement, the only drawback to which was the want of a road. Mr. Whyte has since received official intimation that the grant will be expended in forming the road. Te AwAMUTrj, Friday.
