Businecs during the put week has been nomewhat quiet, owing in a large measure to it* being mail week, and little disposition ni chown to force business until after the 4th. That date has passed off very satiafactorily. In the hay and com market we hare no alterations to quote in price*. For both oata and maize a fair consumptive demand has been experienced. The former we quote at 2* Si up to Si, and maize at 4§. The kauri gum market continue* quiet, and no change is probable unless the inward mail bringi orders. Transactions are meanwhile limited, and prices nominally unchanged. Wβ quote : Poor ordinary, from 30s downwards; fair ordinary, 34s to 365; good ordinary {scarce), 37s to 40*; and East Coast, 48* to 50s. In garden and orchard produce there is but a limited variety to select from, the first market being exceedingly bare, and confined almost wholly to apples, pears, plums, and bananas. Pears are quoted at from 3d to 5Jd per lb.; apples, at 7e 6d to 10s per case, and lid to B£d per lb.; and plums at 6d per lb. wholesale. The arrivals and departures, excepting the barque Glenlora, from London, and the Pearlear, from New York, hare been almost wholly confined to the interprovinclal and intercolonial trade. In butter and eggi we hare no change to report, and prices remain the same as last week. Mr. J. K. Sanderson's tale at Birkenhead on Tuesday was well attended, and the bidding was brisk. The mare fetched £16 ; spring cart, £15 ; oow. £3 15s; horsehair suite, £8; lady's caddie, £4 lOi, and other lines at satisfactory prices. At sale of land, shares, etc, held yesterday. 84 acres at Manga pai sold at 4i per acre; Turkish Bath shares, 25s paid, 20s ; City of Auckland Tramway Co.'*, 17s 6d paid up. 12s and 12* 6d; Apple Farm, 7s paid, Is 6d ; 119 Kurunui G.M.00., 100 Emily, and 2 MoanaUiari G.M.Co., in one lot. for ss; gold watch and chain. £815 i ; organ, £6 10s. The leasehold premises in Customs-street were withdrawn at £150, £120 being the highest bid. Messrs. 6. W. Binney and Co report that at their weekly sale on Tuesday, 3rd inst., of wool, bides, and skins, all hides to hand were of light and inferior description. Prices ranged from 2g J to ii'jd. per lb.; pelts. 9d to It 4d ; lambskins, lid to la 3d; wool, 5d to 5Jd per lb. At the drapery and clothing sale held by W. and J. K. Vaile, at their rooms, Queen-street, the whole of the lot* submitted were, sold at good prices, showing a decided improrement at carket.
