RINGWOOD THE WINNER. Melbourne, March 5. Thk second day's races of the Victoria Racing Club's Autumn Meeting were hold today at Fleinington. The weather was fine, and there was a fair attendance of spectators. The Governor was not present today. The following was the result of The Australian Cup, a handicap sweepstakes of 208OVS each, with 500 added. The handicap weight of the winner of the V.RC. St. Leger to be not less than 7et 12lbs, and the winner of any handicap of the value of lOOsovs after the declaration of the weights to cirry 31bs extra ; of two or more such races, 51bs extra. The second horse to receive lOOsovs, and the third oOsovs out of the stake. Two miles and a-quarter. Mr. N. He was, however, beaten at the sheds, and collapsed at the home turn, where Ringwood came up with a rush, and after a most exciting race got home three parts of a length in front of Sheet Anchor, Stornaway being third. The races to-day were not very well attended, about 2000 persona being present. Most of the racee were very hotly contested. The starts were not very good. The weather was very hot till four o'clock, when a heavy shower fell, and the course was heavy for the last race :— DERBY, lOOsOVS. Fueileer, by Musket—Yatterina (Derritt) 1 Parvenn (Scott) 2 Pay (Clifford) 3 Titokowaru and Stilleto also ran. There was one false start. Fay led the Ursb round. Passing the post the first time, Fay led Parvenu, and Fusileer a little behind her. Parvenu then took the lead for half a-mile, when Derritt came up and landed Fueileer an easy winner. Time, 2mins. 49seca. Totalisator dividend, £1 13a; outside, £1 Us. Hurdles, 75sovb. Scrutineer (Watt) -. ... 1 Macaroni 2 The Druid _... 3 Caoutchouc and True Blue also ran. True Blue got the start, but was soon passed. Passing the post the first time, Scrutineer had a slight lead. It was a very exciting race between Scrutineer add Macaroni. Germaine (MacConnick), 1 ; Bonny Blink (Scott), 2; Ladder (Connor), 3. This was a good race between the first three, and was won by a couple of lengths. Time, lmin. 51sece. Dividend, £1 17s. Wanganui Stakes Handicap of 150aovs. 1 and a-halt miles. Fusileer, by Musket—Yatterina (Derritt) 1 Sirßedevere 2 Clogs (Clifford) 3 Armourer, Awatea and Ringleader also ran. Awaiea cut out the running. Passing the post the first time, Sir Bedevere took the lead and ran very strongly. Half a. mile from home Sir Bedevere, Fuaileer, and Clogs ran in the order named, the two first whipping. Clogs made an etfurt to reach the leaders, but was twice baulked. The finish was a grand one, Fusileer winning on the post, Clogs a good third. Time, 2uain. 43 l-sth sec. Inside totalisator, 157 subscriberr, 70 on winner, dividend £2 18s. Notice of Motion led to the post the first time. Pathfinder soon after came through his horses, and came home an easy winner, Rambler being three lengths away, Kautere a good way behind. Paleface threw his rider. Ncary, in the second round, but he was not injured. Inside—2l7 subscribers, dividend £1 17s ; outside—Bo eubscrihers, dividend £2 9s. Flying Handicap. Speculation (McConnicker) 1 Okato (Peters) ... 2 Laurel (Sutherland) ... 3 Ascot, Buzzard, Last Chance, and Lady Laurel also ran. A very heavy shower fell before this race, and made the course very heavy. There were several false starts. Lady Florence ran the half mile twice, and so spoiled her chance. When the horses got away she led a long way round, but Speculation and Okato took the lead, the former winning pretty easily ; Okato and Laurel two or three lengths away, the others nowhere.
