TEE RAILWAY EXCURSION TO HAMILTON.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Hamilton, Tuesday. Some 300 or more person* arrived by the excursion train to-day, reaching Hamilton at about half-past two o'clock. , The train left Auckland pretty punctually with some sixteen • carriages : literally crammed with passengers. An hour and a half was spent in reaching Drury. ' Many persons were on the platforms of the intermediate stations, anxious to have joined the train, but could not he taken up as the tickets were only issued from Auckland. At Drnry the train was delayed seventeen minutes waiting for the Waikato up train to pass between that plaoo and Frankton. There was no hitch and. good travelling, the only stoppage being at Ngaruawahia, where some fifty or sixty persons were landed. At the Frankton junction, however, considerable impatience was occasioned, as the train had to wait a quarter of an hour before it could proceed on the last mile of its journey. On arrival at Hamilton the excursionists soon got scattered, some leaving by the company's steamer for a trip up to the Narrows, others settling down into small picnic parties on the river's banks, and others requisitioning every available vehicle to have a drive out into the country. The township was again lively towards six o'clock as the various parties gathered in, and all, with one or two exceptions, got safely to the station in time for the return.
