Mr. R. Arthur's Weekly Report.— week has been a busy one in the fruit department, the supply of plums, was greater than last week, prices have been about the same. Fears have maintained last week's prices. Apples are so very plentiful, th-y have to be sold at low prices. Growers should bold back all that will stand for a few weeks. Apples are being offered from the South at' Id per lb. Potatoes are slow of sale at low prices and could not clear out. Onions have gone off fairly at about last week's prices, but few on hand. Cheese and bacon, only firstclass in demand, have not been ablo to clear off, that on hand not being ot the quality required. Monday : Sale of fruit, produce, etc., at mart. A good attendance, and fair prices were obtained. Apples sold at Id to 3Jd ; pears, 2}d to 3d ; damsons, 2Jd ; plums, 4jd to 5d ; quinces, ljd ; lemons, Is 8d; tomatoes, Id; peas, sd; confectionery, 4}d to 7d; biscuits,' fljd to 7d ; sugar, 3rd; cheese, 2d to Sd; bacon and bams, Id to 3d. Tuesday : Sale of household furniture and effects; a good number oresent, bidding, languid; a fair business was done. Wednesday morning: Sale of fruit at mart—the attendance was good; competition for many lines brisk. Apples sold at Id to 3d ; pears, lid to 3d; peaches, 4Jd per dozen, and ljd to 3d lb ; damsons, 3Jd; plums, 4jd to BAd ; grapes, 9d; bullaces, 2d; fowls, Is 2d to Is Bd. Afternoon : Sale of toys, fancy goods, &c, at mart— a small attendance; fair prices wore . obtained. Thursday: A sale of allotments of land In building sites at Devonport, North Shore, adjoining Melrose ; a large number were present, but few were buyers. Bidding was dull, only one allotment reached the nrlce the owner was prepared to tako; the remainder are now open for sale privately. Friday: Market-day sale at Mart; attendance large, fairly brisk bidding. All ; 'arge quantity sold.- Could > not • clear out potatoes at low prices. But little demand for cheese and ! bacon. . Several lines of fruit were passed: apples were difficult to work off; supply much beyond the demand. A large number of poultry entered, but most were not in good condition.
