POLICE CQURT.— Tuesday. (Before H. Q. Seth Smith, Esq., R.H.]

Drunkenness.—One man was fined 5s and costs, or 24 hours' hard labour, for fthis offence. ■ .-;

J Wandebing Hobse.—William Crowther was charged with a breach of the city bylaws, "by allowing hia horse to wander in Wyndham-street, on November 23. Coristable Keany, who found the horse, and Thomas Slator, pound keeper, gave evidenced The defendant said the horse had been hired out by one of his eervanti, and he had no knowledge of the horse being astray until ifc was impounded. The case was dismissed. Indecent Assault.—Abratn Riding, on remand, was charged with unlawfully and indecently assaulting Williaia Chadwin, at Maungaturoto, on November 3. On the application of Superintendent Thomson, the case was remanded for seven days to Pahi, where the caies will be investigated.. Mr. Theo. Cooper, who appeared for the accused, asked that defendant's bail might be enlarged. The request was complied with. Unchained Wheel.—Frederick Price, for leaving his cart unattended in Wyndham-i i street, and without passing a chain through the wheel, was fined 5s and costs.

Laboent—Margaret Bedford and Patrick Carroll were charged with stealing £7 in notes, the property of William Ryce, on November 2S. Margaret Bedford was also charged with a breach o£ thn Vagrant Act, by being the occupier of a house frequented by reputed thieves on November 28, and also having been previously convicted as an idle and disorderly person. Patrick Carroll was also further charged with a breach of the Vagrant Act, by having no lawful -visible means of support. Mr. T. Cotter appeared on behalf of the accused, and oh his application the charges were remanded to Wednesday.

Ob.cbne Language.—Joseph Willing was charged with making use of profane language on board the s.s. Alexandra ferry boat, between. Auckland and Devonport, on November 17. There was a second charge of using obscene language on the same steamer on the. following day, November 18. William Jenkins, mariner, said, he was employed ticket-taking on the s.s. Alexandra on the day in question, when the accused was on board,.and when applied to by the witness for his ticket made use of most profane and abusive langnage. The same conduct was repeated on the following night. John Lander, master of the s.s. Alexandra, said the accused's conduct was very bad on both nights. It was eo bad on the second occasion that it had to be reported to the police. A fine of 40s and costs, or seven days hard labour for each offence, 77aa imposed. Neglected Children.—John Wingate (11) and Robert Wineate (13) were charged with being neglected children within the meaning of the Industrial Schools Act. Sergeant Pratt said the friends'of the boys had applied that they might be committed to the Industrial School at the Thames ; he, however, would apply for "a remand to Thursday in order that the' mother of the boys might be present in Court when the order waa made. The remand was granted.
