ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

About half-past four o'clock yesterday morning, Constable White, who was on the Hobson -street beat, received information that a widow woman, up in years, Mrs. Maria McDonald, who had been'drinking, had attempted suicide at the boarding-house (Mrs. Mclntyre's) at which she resided. On going to the house in company with Constable Cahill, he found the woman lying on her * bed raving, and that she had cut herself about the arms, body, and legs with pieces o£ broken glass. Her mackintosh was lying on a cbair, besmeared with blood, as also the pillows and bedclothes. She said she wished she was dead," and wiib under apprehensions that she would be eaten by cats and dogs. Sergeant Kiely and Constable Hewson brought a cab up to the house, and the unfortunate woman was removed to the Hospital, where her wounds were dressed by Dr. Bond. It' appears' that about ten dayß ago Mrs. McDonald got about £10 from the trustee in her estate, . Captain Daldy, and since then has been, drinking. On Wednesday night she went out and had procured more drink,- the result being that she had been raving and kicking. about on the bed all night, till she attempted in the early morning to commit suicide, as already stated. Up to a late hour last night Mrs. McDonald was doing as well as could be expeoted, and as her wounds are not serious, her recovery, is • only a matter of a few days. '.■-....... _•..'■_
