THE SETTLEMENT OF HELVETIA.
Among the many new enterprise* lately itcted and to be started, there are few that will be watchod with more interest than the Bwiss settlement, Helvetia.- Situated only •boat two and a half miles from the Pakekohe and Paerat* railway station*, Auckland citizens will have ample opportunities of notimojr its progress. At present only the pioneer party it on the groand, bat several more are expected shortly. One idea these settlers have is to introduce the Swiss style of cheese making. An effort will also be made to establish a oanufaotonr of oondensed milk, but this cannot be' dene until the settlement has progressed a little. Fruit and vine culture and wattle growing wQI also receive a large share of attention, and they will specially endeavour to mtrodnoe any industries and methods peculiar to their own country, which they may believe can be carried on with profit ana advantage here. As it is most desirable that sew industries should be established amongst us, it is to be hoped our Swiss friends will meet with every enoouragement, tnd so send a good report back to Switzerland. That they do not mean to stand still is evidenced by the fact that thej have recently extended the area of their settlement by the purchase, through Messrs. Vaile and Douglas, ef the balance af the Wood ho use Estate, amounting toabout 1000 acres. Helvetia is already making a good show, as seen from the railway line, numerous shelter, forest, and fruit trees having been planted, end other improvements made. We wish the settlement every prosperity.
