After a most exciting game the To hub proved themselves too good for their opponents, and at the close of the game baa scored nine points to the Thames nothing. At a meeting of the Wellington Racing Club the receipts for the year w»re shown as £2169, and there was a cash credit of £140. - The stewards recommend that a two days* meeting be held on the 28th and 29th No* vember, and that £600 in stakes be given. The first match for the senior cap waa played this afternoon between the Wellington and Athletic Football Clubs, and resalted in a victory for the latter club by one try to nil. „ , Sunday. The Paikakariki returns in connection with the Foxton election have been found.; and sent on to the chief Returning Offioer as Foxton, where a scrutiny will be made. Including this last return Mr. Wilson h*s a majority of one, bnt the declaration will not be made until after the scrutiny has taken A telegram received states that Taiaroa is elected for the Southern Maori and Wi Per* for the Eastern Maori district. CHRISTCHURCH, Sanday. All yesterday afternoon there was inoeasant heavy rain, and at night and this morning heavy snow. The hi lis to the with of the city are covered with snow. To-day has been fine, bat the temperature is very, low. Mr. Oliver Watsey, in the event of another election for Stanmore, offers himself again as a candidate. It is rumoured that several of the rejected of other constituencies would also woo Stanmore were the present election upset. TIMARU, Sanday. The weather is very boisterous and wintry. There wss a heavy snowfall on the Southern Alps and the lower range of hills last night, with heavy rain and a slight fall of snow on the coast. Bain is now coming down steadily, with a strong south-west gale. DUNEDEN, Saturday. A conference was held between the newlyelected members of Parliament and the committee of the Benevolent Institution, to consider the embarrassed condition of the" institution, in which there is not room for another inmate. The committee had applied to Government for money to erect new buildings, but were refused. The members promised to assist the Committee, and it was resolved to re*apply'for funds to the Government. ■ {At the fire at Hatton, Ding, and Co. a. confectionery factory, the large stock oE goods and ingredients was found to be destroyed, and the valuable machinery rendered almost useless. The correct* insurances are : —Stock plant and maohinery, £750 in the Hamburg; Magdeburg, £650 m Equitable, and £650 in the Mercantile Union. Sandra A four-roomed bouse was destroyed by fire at Normanby. The furniture was insured for £100. A store in King-street was destroyed this morning. Insurance not known.
It baa been raining 'with scarcely any intermission since five o'clock on Saturday evening. Some of Mr. M. W. Green's late constituents propose giving him a banquet. The Normanby Hotel was broken into on Friday night and 25s taken from-the till; also some spirits.
