A SCOTCH ELOPEMENT.
A labge landed proprietor in the north of Scotland, and a married man, suddenly left his wife and family the other day withont giving the slightest intimation as to his future movements. At the same time his wife's sister disappeared, and suspicion waa aroused that'they had left'the conntry together. : Vigilant friends, aided by active detectives, net to work to find out the whereabouts of the missing pair. A clue was found and the delinquents traced to London, where they gave their pursuers the slip ; and on the old sportsman's principle that "iry back ia good hunting," made the best of their way to Glasgow, and from that to Greenock. Not feeling quite secure in thia retreat, they started for Ireland with their friends still on their trail, and,' after spending some time in Dublin and Belfast, sailed for the Iste of Man, where they took up their quarters at the -Victoria Hotel, Douglas. Here they were brought to bay, and their tranquil retirement spoiled by a visit from five members of -the police force, producing a warrant for the arrest of the young lady, asked her to accompany them on board the mail steamer, which; after some show of resistance, she agreed to do. The young lady was then taken charge of in a private cabin by a woman who had been specially brought over for the purpose. Tho gentleman behaved with the calmness of a Mark, Tapley, and returned to Liverpool by the same steamer, where he remained, while the young lady was taken on to Edinburgh. He is about fiftyiyeais of age, and enjoys an income of £10,000 a year.' The young lady is only a sweet seventeen, and both runaways aro reputed to be connected with titled families.
