The published returns of attendance in public schools inthe North Canterbury district show the following totals to 43 schools:— 456 teachers ; number on the roll at the end of the quarter : male, 9428 ; female, ■ 8812. Average working attendance': male, 7044 ; female, 6418. . Messrs. Scott; Bros., ironfounden, of Christchurch, have contracted to supply the Lytteltou Harbour Board with a steam engine for the Gulcher electrio light; for £920.
