THE LIQUOR TRAFFIC IN THE KING COUNTRY.
[BY TELEGRIPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Kihikihi, Thursday, Mia. C. O. Davis, accompanied by Messrs. T. B. Hill, G. K. Taiyhai, and Ormsby, waited on Wahahui, at Alexandra, on Monday, who is in fall accord with tbe mission of the above ! gentlemen on the liquor question. The petition to His Excellency wae cheerfully signed by a large gathering of Maoris at Kihikihi. Sundry interviews were held with Wahanui. The petition was freely signed by the chiefs and people, the Maoris expressing satisfaction, and thanking the mission. Great dissatisfaction is felt by the Maori chiefs generally, and was warmly expressed, in regard to the ignoring of a majority: re the Maungatautari claims now before the Court, the great majority preferring the newly-constituted committee to investigate the land question. The mission re the prohibitory question in the King Country proceed to Taonui's settlement, MohaoDui, and thence to Hikurangi and other places, to obtain signatures, the mission being apprised that the natives throughout the King Country are in fall accord, ■;
