FATAL BUSH ACCIDENT.
CORONER'S INQUEST. A fatal accident took place in the Makarau bush on Friday, the LVith April. Several buahmen were employed jacking legs from the buuli to the'ereek, when John Atchinson, a yeung man from 19 to 20 years of aije, was assisting George Caunrtle in shiftiujj a very large log, consisting of 100U to 1-JOO feet of baulk timber. The log jumped over the jacks, and crushed him to death. Oaundie had a very narrow escape for his life, but, being near the end of th« log, and jumpicc quickly back, he fortunately escaped with out injury. The body of deceased was removed to Helensville, aud a Coroner'inquest was held by Mr. Andrew Bonar, before an intelligent jury, when a verdict of "Accidental death" was returned. The proceedings (were conducted by Constable Foreman, of the Armed Constabulary force. No information was given regarding the nativity of deceased. — [Helensville Correspondent, April 28.]
