WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.

[FROM OUR OWH CORRESPONDENTS.! Hamilton, Monday. It is with regret it will be learned that the delay in opening the convent acuools here has been occasioned by the illness of the Lady Principal, who would have charge of them. In a few weeks, however, it is expected that they will be opened. A wedding took place in East Hamilton on Easter Monday. Immediately after the ceremony the bride, bridegroom, and best man Btarted at full gallop through the principal street on horseback. Mr. Bowron, the Government Inipeotor of cheese factories, who leaves here to-morrow, takes down with him to Auckland a specimen cheese ifom each of the four local factories for testing and examination there. During his recent visit in Waikato Mr. Bowron has visited each of the factories, and has expressed himielf-highly gratified with the successful manner .in which the cheese factory movement has been firmly established in this district. Mr.Bowron recommends that the cheese should always, if possible, be shipped so as to reach home from February to May, that being the season of the year at which best prices will be secured. To the Rukuhia factory (that carried on in the old grand stand on the Ohaupo racecourse) Mr. Bowron gives the palm for superiority of quality. The oheeses are, however, small in size, which for the home market would be a disqualification, cheese of 901bs. weight being the favourite size. At Pateraogi Mr. Bowron was much pleased with the richness and quality of the cheese, particularly the "Cheddar," which he "estimated would be worth in England from 70s to 80s per cwt. As a proof of the success of the Waikato Cheese Factory, it may be stated that though they have given 4d per gallon for milk, a halfpenny more than the other factories, they will be able to deolare a dividend of 8 per cent, for the season on the paid-up capital of the company. Some little amusement was occasioned here by the statement that Mr. T. B. Hill bad been requested to stand for Waipa, and had been offered a large-measure of support. Nobody seems to have heard of ths matter till it appeared in print. Mr. Oiohiston, Inspector of Telegraphs, has been here and at Kihikihi, with the object of ascertaining what additions and improvements are necessary in the offices and house accommodation afforded to the operators at both stations.
