THE CUSTOMS REVENUE. The Customs returns for the financial year ending 31st March have now been made up. The total amount collected throughout the colony for the year is £1,395,951 lis 10d, leaving a deficiency on the Colonial Treasurer's estimate of £121,048 8s 2d. The beer duty for the year amounted to £50,979 14s 9d, leading a deficiency of £5202 5a 3d on the Treasurer's estimate. The Customs revenue collected in the colony last month was £115,816 0s 3d, as against £125,117 7s Id for the corresponding quarter of last year. The amounts from the principal ports last month were as follows :—Auckland, £25,091 3s 2d; Wellington, £20,585 ; Lyttelton and Christchurcb, £16,435 9s lid; Dunedin, £28,869 lis 4d. The beer duty for last month was £4840 9s 4d, as against £5669 14s 4d for March, 1883. The principal towns contributed as follows last month : —Auckland, £993 19s Id; Wellington, £492 193 6d ; Christchurch, £907 lis 6d ; Dunodin, £1089 17s. The following are details of the Customs revenue collected in the colony la3t quarter : — Auckland, £80,947 19s lOd; Thames, £1671 14s 4d ; Kussell, £509 19s Id ; Man. gonui, £69 13s 6d ; Hokianga, £S9 Is 2d ; Kaipara, £477 16s lOd; Tauranga, £676 13s lOd; Poverty Bay, £3061 16s 6d; New . The births for the Auckland distriot for the month of March were 185, of which 111 were in the borough. Deaths. 69, of which 36 were in the borough. The marriage licenses issued were 42, of whioh 20 were solemnized in the office of the Registrar. The immigration and emigration returns for March are : —Auckland : Arrivals, 619. departures, 296. Wellington : 542 and 164; Napier : 3 departures. Greymouth : 30 departures. Hokitika : 32 arrivals. Lyttelton : 1 arrival and 162 departures. Dunedin : 348 arrivals and 6 departures. Invercargill: 421 arrivals and 321 departures. Total : Arrivals, 1934; departures, 1082. Of arrivals, 1054 were from the United Kingdom, 8040 from Australian colonies, 432 from Fiji, and 23 from Hawaii and the South Seas. Departures : 201 for the United Kingdom, 801 for Australian colonies, 14 for Fiji, and 36 for Hawaii and South Seaß. Chinese : Only one arrival, but SO departures. No returns from Russell and Nelson.
