CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

Tire regular fortnightly meeting of the City Schools Committee was held last night. Present :. Messrs. E. Carr (Chairman), W, Crowther, J. H. Hanhan, and J. Billington. Pktition.—The petition to the General Assembly against any- alteration in the present Education Act was brought- op. The members individually. expressed themselves against any- change, but it was agreed, to postpone any action for a fortnight, in consequence of there not being a full meeting. Nelson-stbeet school.—ln reply to the. committee, the Secretary of the. Board of Education reported in regard to the playground, that the Board had authorized necessary repairs to drains, &c, and that they were to be done as soon as possible.—The Chairman said the works were in progress. Foel.—Tenders for the supply of fuel were received from Messrs. Cannon, Winstone, and Craig. Mr. Winstone's tender for the supply of Newcastle and Taupiri coal and teatree was found to. be the lowest, and was accepted, with the proviso that the wood must be out in three lengths and split. The Kindebgabten System.—The Board of Education wrote that .they would make, arrangements to carry on the system at the Wellesley-street school. . Alterations opTeaohebs.—The Secretary, of the Board of Education notified .the following changes of pupil teachers .and probationers :— Wellesley-street : Mr. Walter Kerr and Mr. -Denis JR. ; Flavill /to be employed as probationers, Miss Jessie Evans as pupil *eaoher on probation, Miss Jane A. Sm-rt removed to Beresford-street; Mr. A. English to' be employed , probationer,. and Miss Fraser as pupil teacher on probation. Nelson-street: Mis» Warrier, probationer," to be removed; Miss Rose ■ Bloom, to be empliyed as' pupil- lette* was received.

Appijcatioh.—Mr. Last asked that hi* son might be allowed to remain .at tha Nelson-street school to the ead of tha year, although he would be fifteen years of age at the end of the quarter.—Granted, subject to the usual conditions. Leave of absence.—Mrs. Flora MoLaan'a application for a month's leave of abaeace, which was. strongly,recommended by Mr.'. Harrison, head teacher, was granted! .
