THE ALASTOR.
Once again the barque Alastor (under the flag of the Messrs. Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.) has reached this port from London; and Captain Glazebrook still retains command. As upon former trips, the barque comes into harbour in in a most neat and trim order, and her passengers all speak very highly of the attention paid to them during the passage, which has been upon the present occasion a somewhat long and tedious one, although noticeable for its extreme fineness of weather. Having explosives on board, the Alastor had to bring up at the powder ground. She iB, however, expected to get rid of that part of her cargo to-day, and she will then come up harbour and be berthed at the Queen-street Wharf to discharge the balance of her freight. Messrs. Oruiokahank and Co., her agents, have lost no time in deciding upon the future movements of the vessel, as by announcement it will be seen that the Alastor is to go hence for London. Quick dispatch is promised. Of the passage Captain Glazebrook reports as follows - : —Took departure from the Eist India Docks on the Ist of January, and proceeded to Graveaend, where we received our gun powder, sailing again on the 4th. Owing to a strong westerly gale wan forced to bring up in the Downs, where the vessel lay until 8 a.m. on the 7th, when another start was made, and from thence fine weather prevailed—in fact, the passage throughout was remarkable for the fineness of the weather and the tantalising nature of the winds. The equater was crossed on the Bfch February in 27* W.' Passed the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on the Ist of March, and Tasmania was rounded on the Sth of April. Sighted the Three Kings on the 19th instant. Down the coast light E. and S.E. winds.
