The Mayor and Councillor Von Sturmer were deputed to arrange the matter with Mr. Hay, but the latter of the two being unable to attend to the matter through illness the arrangement was, it seems, broken through. Yesterday morning, at nine o'clock, Mr. Hay handed a-Jetter to the Mayor, some hour and a half before the leaving of the morning train, but without the effeat of causing the desire of the Council to be carried out.

The control of the West and East Hamilton cemeteries has now, by Gazette, been veeted in the borongh. The articles of association of the North New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association are now completed, and were taken down by Mr. Hay yesterday to Auckland for the purpose of registration. There has been qmte a rush upon the shares for allotment durlog the last few days, and amongst the applicants are some settlers who a month ago pooh-poohed the project as nnfeaiible, and certain of failure. A meeting of the directors has been called for Monday next.

A meeting, at which Mr. J. B. .Whyte presided, was held last night in the Presbyterian Churoh, when the Rev, G. B. Munro, of Remuera, gave an interesting address on " General Church Matters—its various funds and missions." There was a very small attendance. : .■■..-•■. ■• •

Mr. Smerdon, builder, is'-about to erect a villa residence for Mr. T. B. Lewis, on the St. Kilda road ; .the contraot price is £735. The Rev. Mr. Spurgeon, of Auckland, will preach the anniversary services on Sunday next in connection with the Tabernacle erected here a year ego. Mr. Spurgeon will also preach on the following Monday evening, when the ordinance of believer's baptism will be solemnised. .

Whata whata, Wednesday.

In less than another month the last of the telegraph poles for tbe Raglan telephone line will have been ereoted. ...The portions of the line incompleted are between Mangakirikiri and Waitetuna, and between Whatawhata and Hamilton. The contractors will start next, week upon the distribution of the poles, whioh have arived here, along these portions of the line.

Kihikihi, Thursday.

Last week a ball was given by the ladies of Kihikihi whioh proved a most unqualified snccesa. There were about fifty couples present, and dancing was kept up with unflagging energy until the entire programme waa gone through. Mr. Empson acted as M.C. Mr. Sibley's band was in attendance. The committee, Mesdames Nicholson, White, Elmsly, Beiry, Tanner, the Misses Farrell and Reay deserve the greatest praise for their exertions in carrying oat the arrangements, and making the first ladies' ball held in our township a complete success.
