THE GOLDFIELDS.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWiI COEKESPONDKNT.]

Te Akoha, Thursday evening. The weather while beautifully fine, is getting very dry, and fears are entertained that the battery may soon, if it continues in this way, be short of water. Any scarcity, however, that may arise would only be of a temporary nature, as arrangements are being made to bring in a further supply from the Wairakau Creek. The winze on the No. 2 reef in the New. Findis now down about 35 feet, with a strong body of quartz from three feet six inches to four feet in hand, showing gold occasionally. The drive southward on Arizona level is also looking well. MABAGEBS' KBPOETS. Nevada.—l am still driving on the reef, having enlarged the paddock, and formed a track to the workings. The prospects continne satisfactory, gold being seen in every breaking-down. The leader, as worked, is becoming more compact, and tho floor near surface, which was nine feet through, has disappeared, leaving a well-defined lode of between four and five feet, and running through a splendid channel of country. I may state that visible gold is seen from footwall to the hangingwalL As we were in close proximity to tho Justina (Sir Walter Scott) boundary, and as . Mr. C. , Wilson thought we were encroaching on their mine, I . thought it advisable to have" the line properly defined, so accordingly asked Mr. Rowe, who ia in the district, to form the boundary, and properly mark it .on tho ground; having done so, I find that the face of drive is about twenty;feet insido Nevada boundary. I may inform you that the best gold is on the floor of the drive, and from what I pan see, the shot of gold anderli.es south, or into the Nevada. , . Waiokongomai.—The large, reef in the Three Fools section of your mine, which I mentioned in my last report, will take a great deal of prospecting, owing to it being so large. I cau sea a little gold in breaking the roof down. I also can get prospects by ponnding the stone where I don't see any gold in Provincial section. Since the new discovery in this section of your mine, I; have been busy, trucking and opening up tho reef. I have opened out where the rich gold was found, and started a drive on the reef toward the Wellington gronnd. This drive is now in 20 feet. The reef is 18 inches in thickness, and is in good sandstone country. In breaking the reef it shows gold through the Bolid stone, but no specimens. As soon as I started driving on the reef it split up into two vein*, with a horse of mullock in the centre of it, but now the horse of mullock is cut out again, and the reef, is its proper size again. I have also traced the reef down to the level of the tramway by trucking, and I got some very good surface prospects out of the cap of the reef. L have commenced a lower level on the reef. This levol is' about 40 feet above, the tramway. This drive is in 10 feet, and in breaking down the reef to-day it showed gold freely iu the solid stone. The reef here is from.lß to 20 inchee in thickness, and also in good country.' Dab.i".— During the past - fortnight wo have sank the ahaft eleven feet and timbered up. The shaft is now down 39 foet below No. 3 level, leaving 41 feot more to sink for the required depth. I expect to have the shaft down iu -eight weeks'- time. Alfred leader on No. 2 level: There is nothing new ainee my ..last.'report;-.? The) reef in drive goipg east .at No. 3 level, I 'am carrying abouc two feet six inches of the footwall portion, : which is carrying some kindlymineral for gold, and is in.a good clasa:of sandstone oountry. I have fully two months more to stopo out the blick on N0.;2 reef. During the month we have cruehed 138 loads quartz for. the return of S62ozs. amalgam. I will clean up aud'retort at' the month's «ud, when I expect to' have about 2500zi. gold, "'.-.. :;■■.'.':.". ..■,.•....'.■.. , ■ /
