In the sixth, page of the present issue will be found a letter from our London corre. spondent, containing interoatiag andimpoitant news. The article in reference to the proposed annexation of Samoa is entirely novel, as we had heard nothing of the despatches that have been written on the subject by the High Commissioner of the Pacific and Hβ Governor of New Zealand. Wβ ate sorry to observe that, owing to ffis Excellency- the Governor not constantly perusing the New Zeaiand Hekald, h e at first missed the news respecting the proposal to annex Samoa, and had to 'have his attention called to the matter by Sir G. Des Vcenx, who apparently has a better idea of his duties in this respect. Sir W. Jervois, however, makes a kind of apology to the Secretary of State to the Colonies for having neglected to read the Hekald constantly, and no doubt will take care not to err again. Sir G. Vf. Des Vceux has appealed to the Govern, ment of New Zealand to exercise its influence to prevent any encouragement being given from here to any movement for annexation. The Government of Neir Zealand have promised not to countenanct any proceedings such as those inaugurated bv Mr. John. Lundon.
