The course of business in the import markets is - somewhat sluggish, tha weeks transactions being : for the most part of an unimportant nature. Quotations for ordinary kauri gum are .unchanged, whilst East Coast varieties exhibit a slight weakness. The brigantine Peerless his commenced to take in her cargo for New York, and she is expected to get away by the beginning of the'ensuing week. In maize-we note ao. advancement of 4d per bushel. "Wβ now quote sales at from 4s 4d to 4s Bd, with a Bomowhat bare market. Advices from Sydney still report a firm market at 4e Ud to ss. Shipments hence to the extent of 400 saoks have been made to the market just named. , , In dairy produce we now quote_ eggs at Is Ud per dozen wholesale, and 2s retail.' Butter remains unchanged at 10d per lb. wholesale, and Iβ per lb; retail. There has been a. fair consumptive demand experienced in the flour market. Bran (local) is now quoted at £6, and Southern at £5. i The arrivals and departures during the past week have been unimportant, being confined to intercolonial and coastal traders. Messrs. G. "W. Binney and Co. report nt their weekly sale of wool, hidoa, and skins, the market for hides is still weak, ordinary lots sold from Sd to 3Jd ; inferior, 2d to 2Jd per lb. Station skins, 2s 2d to 3s 7d ; lamb «kins, 2s Id to 2b 7d; pelts, 10d to Is 7d; green, 2a 2d each ; scoured pelt wool, 7d per lb.
