ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Council waa held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs. Clark, Dunwoodie, Hills, Jackson, Lundon, and Tapp. In the. absence of the Mayor, Mr. Dunwoodie was elected Chairman. The minutes and correspondence were read.

Haebouk.—ln reference to the request of the Chamber of Commerce, endorsed by the Council, the Minister of Public Works wrote declining to hand over the ; railway wharvee either to the Counoil or to a local Harbour Board.

Returning Officer., — An.- application, from Mr. H. Clarke for the, appointment o£ Returning Officer was read.—The reply ordered was, the offioe was not vacant.

Waix of Rbssbve;. —Aii application from the contractor for the erection of this Trail for an extension of time was read.—The consideration was deferred, the oontraot tine having been already, cooßiderably exceeded. A farther application for reduotioa in size of cope atones was referred to the Engineer for report. Accounts were considered and passed. Railway Extension.—A letter asking for reply to the application of the Public Works with reference to, removing the . Onehunga station from its present site, was further considered, and Mr. Jackson's resolution, with some" alterations, " That the proposal to remove -the terminus from its present central position is unsatisfactory, and apparently not required for public convenience, more especially ■ so materially reducing the width of Princes-street, that'the Council cannot giyp its consent. If the Public "Works Department still intend to proceed with the soheme, muoh fuller information, tracings, &c., will be required."

Works.—Several matters reported upon by the Streets Committee were considered and dealt with.

Cemetery.—A motion to instruot the Engineer to make the necessary trial borings on the new public cemetery site to asoertain the depth of soil without obstruction from stone, was carried.
