A large number of shares have already been taken up, and it. is stated that one-fourth of the required sum has, been subscribed. Sir H. Parkes sails for Australia towards the end of May. Nubar Pasha, who has resigned bis position as Premier of the Egyptian Ministry, declares that a Government .composed of Egyptian and Britiahoffioials ia altogether unworkable. His opinion ia that a British protectorate over Egypt ia inevitable. The Privy Council hava dealt with the appeal case of Williams v. the Queen. This was an appeal froma decision of the Native Lands Court iu New Zealand with respect to some land at Bay of Islands. The Privy Council affirmed the decision of the New Zealand Court.
