IMPROVED REFRIGERATOR.
[»r TELEGRAM.—PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WELUNGTONyTuesday. An invention, whiohia claimed to effect considerable , improvements in the present 'system of freezing meat,:; has jußt been Jpatented|by-Robert Niedergiraess,;. of Wellington. 'The invention has for its objeot [three improvements on the nresent mode of creating cold air. The. first - consists in 'a great saving of" power caused by the diffusion of' cold' water into the air or in such a manner -as: t6 prevent any : rise of [ temperature during the act of compression. The second consists in-freezing meat at a pressure greater than .atmosphere, and the third consists in-utilising the:beat of the meat—any heat that finds its way. through conduction into- the freezing : chambers, the heat of any available water or !other material that is warmer than returning air from'the "chamber'.' The inventor claims (1). the. .compression, of. air, under constant or even at decreasing temperature ; (2) the application: of freezing under a'pressure higher''than atmosphere; and (3) the use.of .a. cylinder in which the retaining expanded.! air; jis . utilised. Mr.' Niedergiraess: has given the subject a good.dealof attention, and i 8 convinced that, if His invention were substituted for, .the •> system used ' at present,"a savmg of about .90 per [cent, in' coal alone would be effected. - •
