BILLIARD TABLES.

TO THE EDITOE. Sib, —By advertisement I notice that licenses for the above are issued by the City Council. Could you inform me what supervision the Council have over these tables, whether or not there is any restriction as to amounts permissible to be gambled for, or any limitation as to the hours the tables may be used ? Should there be no suoh restrictions, I hope some members of the Council 'will move to have these neceßsary conditions attaohed to the license. These tables cause a great deal of demoralisation by reason of the gambling and - late—or rather early— hoars, for in come houses (he clioking.of the balls has been heard at three and four o'alock in the morning.' That much gambling is done is veil known. If public evidence is required, let the advertisement that occasionally appears that debts over £5. will be forgiven suffice. In the interest of the community th'ese tables should be closed to players at ten o'olock, and all day on Sundays, As a question of fair play to the publioans, who soon will perforce adopt ten o'clock olosing, this condition- should be* insisted upon. Trusting that the Connoil will remember that it is their highest duty to aid the morality of the community, and that they will take corresponding action, —I am &c., Citizen.
