FIRE IN BRIGHTON-ROAD, PARNELL.
A vibe broke, out in a four-roomed cottage belonging to Samuel White, situated in the Brighton-road, yesterday' morning at eleven o'clock. The cottage was occupied by Daniel McGeary, who was away from his home at the time. The. only person near the house about the time of the fire was Mrs. McGeary, who had been engaged ini.washing.. She had gone out a little before it occurred;' There waa a fire alight in the front room. Mrs. McGeary cannot say how -the fire occurred. The only probable supposition is that while she was gone • to' purchase material for washing, »ome of the fire scattered on to the wood beyond the hearth. When she" returned the house was on fire. She gave an alarm, but there were very few men near the place to assiet her. .The newlyorganized Fire Brigade of Parnell were as soon as .possible od the epot, but they were too late. The bouse wan completely destroyed. Some few articles of furniture wer aaved. The cottage was insured for. £175 in the .New Zealand Insurance Company's Office.
