ATTEMPT TO FIRE THE EDEN TERRACE PUBLIC HALL.
An attempt was made on Thursday night to aet fire to the Eden Terrace Public Hall, under the following circumstances : Shortly; after nine o'clock a son of Mr. Henderson, draper, observed a man jumping over the fence of the hall back yard, and nearly at the same time' the lad observed dimes and: smoke coming up from under the ball. He at once gave the alarm, and Mr. Henderson.' at once came out, and raked out from under, the building a large bag of burning paper, , whi'h conld only have been placed there fan the purpose of tiring the hall. The paper, being tightly compressed only Smouldered/ and had not time to communicate with the woodwork. -Constable Dewes. was soon on the sp'it, and tecured the bag, p-nding thu investigations of Detectives fwohey and Walker, who have been instructed by Superintendent Thomson, to thoroughly sift the affair.
