ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY.
There was one of the largest and best houses of the season at the Opera House last night on the second production of that sparkling comic opera, "The Chimes of Normandy." The complete manner in which it is mounted and costumed is of. itself a great attraction, and added as it is to finished and complete mastery of the music combined on the part of each, with a perfect '-comprehension and thorough delineation' of the characters, it is not to he wondered at that the opera is so popular. Miss Fannie Liddiard is a most graceful, charming Germ'aiue ; Miss Nelly Stewart a vivacious and'sparkling Serpolette, Mr. Vernon a gentlemanly, and elegant Marquis, and Mr. Woodfield's a fine impersonation of Grenicheux. The comic elemsnr, as delineated by Mr. John Ford e as the Baillie, and by Mr. Wallace as' Gobo, provoked the mirth of the audience to..its utmost stretch, and Mr. Edwin. Kelly's delineation or the miser Gaspard was masterly in conception, and was worked out with wonderful cleverness. All the principal solos and duets were encored, and at the close of each act the principals were called before the curtain. The ouera ,:will ■be repeated to-night. '."■'■.'. ■
